FSEC 2012 Prague

The 10th anniversary of the international fair Future Soldier Exhibition & Conference (FSEC), which was held in Prague on 17-19 October 2012 under the auspices of the Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic, Defence & Security Association (DSIA), AFCEA and many other organisations, and supported by NATO HQ, NSA, NSPA, NCIA, NATO MILMED COE, NATO JCBRN Defence COE, EDA, EUROPOL, or European GNSS Agency, has become a major international event representing the latest technologies in the defence and security field.

This year, the main goal was to support the Czech defence and security industry and the Alliance’s main tasks, such as cyber defence, counter-terrorism and organised crime fight, smuggling and human trafficking, protection of critical infrastructure, soldiers’ protection, combat training or monitoring of a large area. Another very important goal was the active cooperation with Allies and partners, international organizations (EU, UN, OSCE, etc.), private sector, academia, and potential investors.

2012 was the 10th jubilee of this event which greatly contributed to information and knowledge exchange between the NATO countries and their Allies on the current trends and needs in the area of modern defence. FSEC 2012 followed the conclusions of the 2002 Prague Summit, where Cyber Defence was mentioned for the first time and consequently integrated into the Alliance’s agenda. The current development in the field of Cyber Defence and Smart Defence requires our utmost attention.

The fair was accompanied by a number of significant events, such as the congress of the European Military Press Association (EMPA), regular NATO LCG Land Engagement working group meeting and international conference “Future of Cyber Security and Defence” organised under the auspices of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA). The conference was primarily focused on the new trends in the field of information and communication technology, security of public sector network, defence and security forces’ networks, cooperation between academia and the private sector, and many more current topics that were raised during the discussion panels.

FSEC boasted a great reputation in the international defence and security community since its inception. It has so far attracted many high ranking officers not only from the NATO HQ, but also the NATO, PfP, Mediterranean Dialogue and Istanbul Cooperation Initiative member countries and partners. The fair was visited by a total of 60 official delegations from more than 45 countries. Official delegations consisted of representatives of the political, as well as, professional military community.

Organizers of the FSEC 2012 contributed to the individual meetings of private sector representatives with the Ministries of Defence and Armed Forces’ leaders in the form of round table dialogues, panel discussions and company presentations. These meetings and presentations significantly contributed to establish or deepen the business relations of all participants.

Year 2014 will follow the concept of focus on the latest trends in modern defence and security and will offer all participants a much deeper and modern approach to achieve their needs. Year 2014 will be a tailor-made event fully supporting the B2B activities and interaction between the public and private sector.
