Dear Friends.

The Future Soldier Exhibition & Conference, which will take place in Prague on 17-19 October 2012, marks the 10th anniversary of this forum which contributes to greater information exchange among NATO Allies and Partners about current trends in the area of modern defence. The 2012 event will be a follow-up to the 2002 Prague Summit, which placed cyber defence on the Alliance’s political agenda for the first time. It will reflect, inter-alia, the current developments in the fields of cyber defence and Smart Defence, which require our utmost attention.

The main goal of the event is to support the Alliance’s core tasks, such as addressing the vast array of cyber attacks, countering terrorism, organised crime, smuggling and human trafficking, protecting strategic infrastructure, ensuring soldier protection, training, large area monitoring, etc. The other important aim is to facilitate active engagement with partners, international organisations (the EU, the UN, the OSCE, etc.), private sector, academia and other relevant stakeholders.

The Future Soldier Exhibition and Conference has achieved a very high standing within the international professional military community since its inception. It has attracted attendees not only from the NATO and the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council countries, but most recently also from the Mediterranean Dialogue and the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative. The event is organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic, the Defence and Security Association, the Association of Guns and Ammunition Manufacturers and Sellers, the Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association and the University of Defence.

Participants and main speakers at the 2012 forum will include representatives of NATO Allies and Partners at the level of Deputy Minister of Defence, Chief of General Staff, National Armaments Director, Head of the University of Defence, Head of NATO sections, Head of the NATO Standardisation Agency, representatives of the NATO Chain of Command (ACT, NATO Schools) and Centres of Excellence, European military journalists, ICI journalists, scientists in the area of military technologies, etc.

The exhibition will be accompanied by the Congress of the European Military Press Association (EMPA publications and periodicals represetative), as well as the „Future of Cyber“ Conference. The conference will be aimed primarily at the new trends within the area of security and information community of the public sector, army and security forces, the academia and private business cooperating in projects of public interest.

The Future Soldier Exhibition & Conference will be an excellent opportunity to communicate progress and plans in Smart Defence in general and cyber defence in particular and to inspect state-of-the-art future soldier technologies.
